Sex fiend attacks

Door-knock appeal for help to solve crimes

Kununurra detectives have stepped up their efforts to catch a man who has made at least one and maybe two blatant sex attacks.

An attack in the Riverfig Leichhardt Street area, early last week, was the second of a similar nature within six weeks.

Det. Sgt Ashley Goy has not ruled out the possibility that the same man was responsible for both attacks.

The first attack was in Bauhinia Street, Kununurra, in mid June and involved a man entering a house where a woman in her early 20's was asleep.

The man was wearing some item over his head to conceal his identity.

The second attack occurred in the early hours of July 29 and no details were released to the Kimberley Echo until late last week.

Det. Sgt Goy said it would appear the attacker had 'cased out' the premises to find the young woman, also in her early 20's, was at home alone.

The attack, like the first one, had been made in darkness, with the man forcing his victim to perform a sexual act.

On this occasion, however, there was no report of anything being used to cover the man's head.

The description of the man is sketchy.

He is believed to be in his mid 20's, Caucasian and of average build.

He was wearing jeans at the time of the attack.

As both attacks were made in the early hours of a Monday morning, Det. Sgt Goy is eager to hear from any employers who might have noticed any abnormalities in an employee's behaviour on a Monday morning.

He is also asking anyone who may have seen someone, or a vehicle, behaving suspiciously in the Leichhardt Street/ Riverfig Avenue area on July 29 to contact Kununurra Police on 9166 4530.

He has advised young women to close their blinds and lock their doors, even if they are watching television, and to check that windows and screens are secure.

Det. Sgt Goy is also calling for anyone else who might have been attacked or foiled an attempted attack to contact police.
