Symphony Orchestra visits
The WA Symphony Orchestra is in Kununurra tomorrow for a performance at the Leisure Centre and admission is free. A large majority of students from Kununurra District High School and St Josephs School will attend and the orchestra has also invited any members of the public who wish to attend to squeeze in. The performance is scheduled for 1pm. The orchestra is touring the North West in the form of a 15-piece Educational Chamber Orchestra known as EChO. |
The orchestra performed in Broome on Monday, Derby on Tuesday, Fitzroy Crossing on Wednesday and was scheduled to play in Halls Creek today. EChO is a snapshot of the full orchestra supporting education activities and community access projects. In the past it has performed with the Bananas In Pyjamas at Kings Park, with the animals at Perth Zoo and some unique concerts in Perth's detention centres and prisons, furthering the orchestra's mission of taking classical music to every person in the State. EChO presents the various instrumental families of the orchestra through demonstrations, discussions and ensemble performance. |
The ensemble consists of a string quartet (2 violins, viola, cello and double bass), a wind quartet (flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon), a brass quartet (French horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba), a percussionist and a harpist. The objective of EChO performances is to entertain and educate a cross section of the community with classical music. Last week the orchestra received a $23,553 boost from the Minister for Regional Development Tom Stephens to fund its North Western tour. |
