Community centre push

The Kununurra Neighbourhood House is behind a new push to develop a community centre for the town.

Coordinator Michele Pucci wants to pull together the Department of Community Development, community groups and the public to set up a steering committee to look at what is needed and how best to achieve the best solution.

Michele envisages the department, the Shire and the community making donations (some in kind) along with local businesses.

A public meeting has been scheduled for November 4 at 7pm in Tourism House to determine interest in the proposal and begin to develop the best possible model.

A community centre could provide a home for groups such as Neighbourhood House and other smaller groups as well as government agencies.

It would also provide a place for some organisations to conduct their activities.

She said Youth Services would be likely to be a major stakeholder.

Possible sites for a community centre are opposite TAFE and in the Picture Gardens area.
