Shock survivor says thanks

Peita Mazaroli, the fruit picker who survived 22,000 volts, is in good spirits in Royal Perth Hospital.

The 29-year-old accidentally contacted her head with power lines, while operating a cherry picker on a Jabiru Road property in Packsaddle.

She suffered severe burns to her arms and will require months of physiotherapy.

But hospital staff says she has a positive attitude and has asked the Kimberley Echo to pass on her thanks to Kununurra.

Speaking from her hospital bed on Tuesday she said: "I really love it up there and everyone up there.

"I would like to thank everyone for showing me such a good time. It's beautiful country; it's amazing.

"Everyone was so good to me during my two months up there and since the accident," Peita said.

Her mother Marie has flown to Perth from Sydney to be with her daughter.

Marie said there had been a lot of goodwill towards her daughter from the people of Kununurra since the accident.

A power worker, who didn't wish to be identified, said it was the first time in his experience that anyone had survived such a massive electrical shock.

He said that had the current traveled down through her legs, instead of through her arms, she would almost certainly have died.
