$9000 theft solved

Sen. Det. Kim Travers and Const. 1st Class Karl Perry with some of the recovered haul.

The theft of nearly $9000 worth of horse gear, knives and clothing from a Kununurra business has been solved.

On October 22 thieves broke into Shelf Supply in Bloodwood Drive and stole about $7000 worth of horse riding equipment.

They used canvas bags, also stolen from Shelf Supply, to cart away the goods.

On November 5 there was a second burglary and this time more than $1800 worth of knives, clothing, whips and boots were taken.

Sen. Det. Kim Travers told the Kimberley Echo on Tuesday that on December 4, detectives received information and subsequently went to a house and arrested a 16-year-old boy.

Police subsequently executed search warrants on three premises and arrested boys aged 16, 14 and 13.

The majority of the stolen property was located in the ceiling of one of the houses.

Police also recovered a .22 calibre rifle, stolen from the Hidden Valley Caravan Park in January last year.

A fifth boy has since moved to the Eastern States and police are attempting to ascertain his whereabouts.

It is believed he did not have a substantial quantity of stolen articles in his possession.

Det. Travers said none of the boys had been in trouble with police before and for this reason they were dealt with by the Juvenile Justice Team.

She commended the families for the way in which they had cooperated with police and said they had showed a 'responsible attitude'.

A very thankful Richard Finckh collected the stolen goods and set about the unenviable task of redoing his displays.
