Rangers Canberra trip

Rangers pose in the Botanical Gardens in Sydney

Following many months of fundraising, on October 15, 59 Police Rangers and six instructors left Kununurra for Canberra.

After a long bus ride and flight, we reached Canberra the following night.

During our time in Canberra we visited all of the capital's sites including the new and old parliament houses, The Royal Mint, The Australian Institute of Sport, the CSIRO, Australian War Memorial and the Australian Defence Force Academy.

The Rangers conducted a mock Parliamentary debate in the old Parliament House.

At the Defence Academy the Rangers were put through their paces and had to negotiate a very tricky water course.

The snow skills of the Rangers were tested when we went to Perisher Valley for a day in the snow - a new experience for many.

After Canberra we travelled back to Sydney, where we visited the Opera House as well as the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

We toured Homebush and the Telstra Stadium as well as taking a cruise along Sydney Harbour.

Later we watched a production of the Lion King at the Civic Theatre.

On way back to Kununurra we spent two days at Larrakeyah Army base, where we completed further drills and exercises.

The Police Rangers would sincerely like to thank Lyndie Wilde, Trish Evans, Joe Farone, Steve Bedford Susie Graham and Ron Dodson for their organisation and time and effort in looking after us; not to mention our humorous bus driver Johnno.

We would also like to thank all of the people who sponsored this trip and made donations.
