Nine teams of four contested the Corporate Cup - Closing Day Competition at the Lake Kununurra Golf Club on Sunday, with combined handicaps ranging from 53 to 165. Five percent of each team's combined handicap was allocated to its result, and it turned out to be a close event with winners, 'Fruit and Veg'(Tim Triglone, Lachlan Dobson, Lyn Randell and Alastair Brown) on 20.7, defeating 'CJ Ord' (Chris Yoo, Ed Schulze, Tizi Bonora and Peter Zanker), on 21.65. Third place went to 'Wyndham', (Skull, Trogg, Marty and Rusk) on 22.6. The 'Top End Tarts' came next with 22.85 and won the card draw; 'Sue and Friends' 23.25; 'Ultimates' 23.35 and 'Bundy' were next on 23.85, but claimed they could have done better with the Bear. |
That left the fight for the NAGA, and the 'Bush Hens' thought they had it in the bag with 24.75, but were completely outclassed by the 'Kununurra Tree Hackers' (Judy Gimbel, Ray Bowden, Nev Warrington and John Baxter), who returned a 28.05 to take that title easily. Novelty prizes were awarded on each hole and these went to seven of the nine teams, with 'Fruit and Veg' two; Jane Harman and Carmel Waugh each two; Marie Wickstein, Judy Gimbel, Mick Bowles, Brett Cooper, 'Ultimates', 'Wyndham', John Baxter and Tizi Bonora each winning one. Greg (Hairy Dog) Harman received an honourable mention for his driving skills with the buggy around the sausage sizzle on number seven, and although full details are not available, it is understood that he may well be under contract for next year's Indy 300 at the Surfer's Paradise circuit. |
