Our first 'funny dunny'

Kununurra is to get its first automatic self-cleaning public toilet and it is to be located in the parking area/reserve next to Kimberley Fine Diamonds, The exact part of the reserve is yet to be decided.

Similar thunder boxes in the shires of Broome, Halls Creek and Roebourne have been hailed as a success.

The move to replace existing public toilets in the future with the self-cleaning units is in response to concerns about the poor state of public toilets around Kununurra.

However, it is an expensive process - each unit costs $120,000.

Other possible sites that council considered were White Gum Park and Messmate Way.

Any resemblance to Dr Who's Tardis is purely coincidental.
