Kununurra has a brand new facility with all the tools to help get people into the workforce. The new Employment Directions Network Kununurra office was officially opened on Thursday morning. Brand new computers and associated equipment have been installed in the Telecentre area at Tourism House in Kununurra. The Employment Directions Network is a new framework aimed at making people more employable, rather than just trying to find them jobs. Employment directions officer Jenny Knight will help provide support and direction for job seekers. The concept replaced Joblink, which was more focussed on just getting people lined up with a job. Lotterywest and the Department of Education and Training (DET) jointly fund the concept. Kununurra Telecentre has contracted to provide the service. Management committee chairperson Bridget Cook explained to people at the opening what the service was all about and introduced DET regional coordinator Kerry Worth who spoke on the focus of the program. Shire President Barbara Johnson further elaborated on its importance to the community before cutting a ribbon to officially open the facility. Bridget concluded the ceremony by cutting a large cake.
