Continuing business support

Kununurra will continue to receive the specialist services of TradeStart export advisers to help small and medium-sized local companies access lucrative export markets.

Federal Member Barry Haase announced the continuation last week.

"The continuation of the TradeStart program in the Kimberley, in conjunction with the existing business support network around Australia, will go a long way towards increasing the opportunities for regional Australia to trade competitively in a global market," Mr Haase said.

"Regional Australia generates over half of Australia's exports, although it accounts for only one-third of the nation's workforce.

"The Howard Government has expanded the TradeStart program in recognition of the need to assist small to medium-sized enterprises to develop sustainable export practises.

"The TradeStart office in Kununurra, with its sub-offices in Broome and Derby, is a partnership between the Kimberley Development Commission (KDC) and the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) and this renewed funding for the continuation of the partnership is a testament to its success in the region.

"Businesses in the Kimberley now have the opportunity to break into new and potentially lucrative international export markets by taking advantage of the specialist advice of TradeStart's project managers.

Interested businesses can contact the TadeStart office in Broome on 9193 6795, or visit the Austrade website at www.austrade.gov.au and follow the links through For Australian exporters, then Information for New Exporters, then to TradeStart.
