Three new four-bedroom houses are to be built in Kununurra to accommodate WA public servants based there. Local Member Carol Martin announced that the winning tender of $731,493 was awarded to Kununurra builder, Marvic Constructions. Mrs Martin said the homes were to be built at Lot 1649 Cycas Close, Lot 1729 Grevillea Avenue and at Lot 1462 Mallee Court for use by the Government Employees Housing Authority (GEHA). |
Site planning was carried out by Kununurra's Monsoon Architects, using data provided by the Department of Housing and Works. The houses would be of steel frame construction, with fibre-cement external cladding and Colorbond steel roofs. The housing designs selected are known to be suitable for local climatic conditions such as during the wet. "Lightweight construction materials suited to temperature extremes will be used to build the homes," Mrs Martin said. |
"Passive solar orientation has also been used to cope with Kununurra's tropical climate. "The Gallop Government believes all Western Australians should have reasonable access to secure and affordable housing." The three homes are due to be completed by May 2004. |
