Yet another serious storm hit the Ord Valley on Sunday evening. Wind gusts of up to 91 kilometres an hour were measured at Kununurra Airport shortly after 10pm. However, it is almost certain there were stronger gusts in the light industrial area off Weaber Plain Road and in some of the older parts of Kununurra. Trees came crashing down over power lines, mango crops were damaged and Kununurra was thrown into darkness as power to the town was cut following a lightning strike up at Lake Argyle. It went off at 7.30pm and the backup diesel generators were not in action until 10.15pm. The hydro power was restored at 10.45pm. Roy Crouch had a lucky escape when a tall gum tree split apart on a neighbour's property and came crashing down on trees in his backyard. Had it gone in a different direction, it would have almost certainly smashed his Mangaloo Street house. Another house in Ironwood Drive narrowly missed serious damage when a very large tree was uprooted. |

On Monday morning State Emergency Service crew were working with Shire staff to clean up the large amount of debris left by the storm. |
