Two members of the WA Crime Stoppers Section were in Kununurra last week promoting the services they offer. Det. Snr Sgt Kim Gage and Det. Snr Const. Nicole Young visited police stations and spoke to shire representatives in Broome, Derby, Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek and Kununurra. They wanted to clear up some misconceptions people have about Crime Stoppers and encourage more people to use their service. |
When people dial their 1800 333 000 number there is no record made of the origin of the call and calls are not recorded on cassette or any other device. Callers can remain completely anonymous. The concept of Crime Stoppers developed after police in the USA used the idea to get public information back in 1976. |
Since then the concept has spread all over the world. Det. Snr Sgt Gage said it was a partnership between police, the community and the media. He urged people to contact police with any information they had about crime, whether it was a minor offence or a major crime. Crime Stoppers is planning a Kimberley-localised dial in campaign for next year. |
