The first Telstra CountryWide round of the Summer Cup attracted a big field of players on Sunday. Most players had no trouble with the advertising leading up to the cup, getting there in plenty of time for the 7am draw, although dispensation was given to one group, which believed that 7.30 was the start time. Winner of the day and now leader of the pack was Stu Clegg with 20 points, giving him a handicap break of 11 from 12. |
Second, with 19 points, was Vince Durkin and third on a countback from Lawrie Harvey, was Stan Best with 18 points. The NAGA went to Matt Brown with nine points. Nearest the pin went to Helen Triglone on two and no one was within a flagstick length of number four, so the Eagles Nest jackpots to four balls for round two. Players should note that, because of the great prizes available, normal handicapping rules will apply, so as not to disadvantage winners and place-getters in the earlier rounds. |
Hence Stu only loses one shot and the others retain their handicaps. The first prize is a set of golf clubs valued at $1000. The next round will be on November 28 and players can tee off anytime before 7.30am. Cards must be in by 10.30am. Those without a playing partner should be at the club by 7am to be drawn in a group. |
