Eagles Nest

A total of 28 players took to the course in Sunday morning in the SInfoSol second round of the Summer Cup.

Conditions were good with half the field playing to within one stroke below their handicap or better.

Winner on the day and new leader of the pack was Lawrie Harvey with an excellent score of 23 points and this won him a handicap break from 19 to 17.6 – just allowing him to remain on 18.

Things were pretty tight for the placegetters with a three-way tie on 21 points, where, on a count back, second went to Duane Burns, third to Peter Riley and fourth to Vince Durkin.

The player in this group who thought he had 22 points should know by now that you don’t get 3 for 3 on #4 with a handicap of less than 18.

Handicap breaks went to Duane - 18 to 17, Vince - 12 to 11, and Peter was lucky to only go from 14 to 13.5, so stays on 14.

Other good scores on the day, lucky to miss out on handicap breaks because of the above high scoring, were Gail Best and Glenn Davey, who both got 20 points.

Nearest the pin on #2 went to Peter Riley and no one was within a flag stick length of number 4, so the Eagles Nest jackpots to 6 balls for round 3.

Current holder of the cup’s longest drive on #9 is Gail Best, who took over from Helen Triglone – it seems the men can get down there but are having trouble holding the fairway.

With the course playing this well at present, players should get out for the next round on December 12 to take advantage of the conditions before the wet really gets started.

Competitors may tee off anytime before 7:30am with a member, or members of their choice, ensuring that their cards are in by 10:30am.

Those without a partner should arrive before 7am for a draw.
