The recently-completed Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley’s community survey provided some interesting feedback. It dealt with the performance of the Shire and residents’ preferred direction for the future of the East Kimberley. 224 residents completed the 59 question survey with more than 500 individual comments and suggestions also being included. The survey assessed the community’s perception of the importance of Shire services and then asked the residents to rate how satisfied they actually were with the current level of service being provided. |
Other areas such as the Shire’s responsiveness to the community, openness and honesty, communication and the quality of the life in the Shire were also measured. The community survey was similar to one undertaken in 2002 allowing the Shire to see areas of improvement and areas where further work was required. Shire chief executive officer Chris Adams said that, overall, the Shire was pleased with the results of the 2004 survey, as the results indicated that, in general, residents were becoming increasingly satisfied with Shire performance in the vast majority of areas. |
He said that the survey results, particularly the individual comments, had been treated very seriously and indicated that the councillors had considered each comment when the Shire was developing its new version of the strategic plan. Key community issues that arose from the survey included youth issues, local streets, fire, footpaths and parks facilities. Mr Adams said that actions to address these issues were prominent in the Shire’s plans for 2005. |
