Clouters scoop pool

The combined Ord River Masonic Lodge and the Ord River Lions Club Christmas raffle was drawn at Tuckerbox in Kununurra on Saturday.

Amazingly enough, first and second prize went to members of the same family - the Clouters.

Police sergeant Eddie Clouter and his wife Caroline have only just left the Kimberley to take up a posting down south.

Raffle organiser Peter De-Merlo was amazed at the two winners being from the one family as the tickets were drawn from different parts of the tub, which contained 914 tickets.

Bernice Spackman drew the winning tickets with the prizes going to: 1st Naomi Clouter, 2nd Andrew Clouter, 3rd Kerry Worn.

"We would like to say just how much we appreciate the input of the local businesses and the local people for supporting this very worthy cause, from the 914 tickets sold we have raised, after costs, $4311, all of which will go towards putting nice homely furnishings into the new aged care home, just completed behind the hospital," Peter said.

"The Masonic Lodge and the Lions, are looking at making this an annual event in aid of local charities."

The Clouters organised for some of their prizes to be taken south to them by another police officer, who is also moving south.

The remainder of shopping vouchers at local stores, they have donated back to the Lions and the Masons for further fundraising activities.
