Big night for tennis club

More than 100 tennis fans enjoyed an open night at the Kununurra Tennis Club recently.
Accomplished announcers Bevan Green and Sarah Cuthbertson kept the crowd moving along and on their toes, whilst young and old took part in events such as family challenges, wheelchair tennis, speed serving, space invaders, fast tennis and a variety of other games organised for all ages.
Andrew Trezona hit the speediest serve - his second win in this competition.
Many players won prizes for their efforts on the courts as well as the gate prize and entrance winners.
Chloe Symonds won the raffle and Jack Monahan won the junior gate prize.
David Francis won the senior gate prize.
The cake, drinks and produce stalls and the sausage sizzle raised funds for resurfacing the courts.
Organisers said the club was very grateful for the support from members and parents of the juniors as well as the Leisure Centre staff who assisted.
The club says all those who renewed their tennis skills and enthusiasm should take part in social tennis each Tuesday evening from 6.30pm.
The club's junior program has attracted more than 150 tennis enthusiasts on a regular basis since January.
It ended on a high note when almost 50 junior tennis players took part in the Annual RB Dessert Seeds Junior Championships.
The 10 and under round robin event was very popular and the newly introduced timed format meant every competitor could play at least four matches.
The juniors were keen to show the skills they had been learning in the Sunsmart Coaching programs.
High school players showed a great improvement in their skills with many very close matches.
