Opposition Indigenous Affairs spokesman Steve Thomas believes riots at Kalumburu could have been avoided.
He says the State Government should have made good its promise of providing $45,000 to the community's administration.
Kalumburu was been beset with unrest as additional people have entered the community to vote on its administration.
Mr Thomas said the government had promised Kalumburu $45,000 on August 24 after he had raised the matter in State Parliament and through the media.
"The money was to appoint a facilitator to run the corporation and get Kalumburu back on track, so fresh food could be provided," Mr Thomas said.
"The shop is open but there is friction among the people about the administration.
"This unrest may have been avoided with a new facilitator in place, organising the community in a more professional way.
"However, despite the Liberal Party reminding Minister Kobelke of his promise on September 5, he still hasn't even notified Kalumburu of the forthcoming money let alone paid it.
"The Labor Government's neglect of this situation may have contributed to this situation." |
