Resort reveals splendour

The Greek Islands? A top line Asian resort?
Neither, this piece of tropical luxury is slap bang in the middle of the

Kununurra business people were treated to a preview of Charlie Barbagallo's new Argyle Kimberley Resort on Friday afternoon. The Kununurra Chamber of Commerce and Industry held one of its 'Business After Hours' meetings at the resort on the Victoria Highway in Kununurra. Many were amazed at the scale of the enterprise and the incredible vision that has gone into creating it. As the project heads towards completion, it was very obvious to those present that it will provide a major boost to the tourism industry in the East Kimberley. Boasting four-star luxury, three magnificent inter-connected swimming pools, tropical gardens, a choice of fine dining or bistro, 73 rooms, convention and conference facilities, disco and special lighting and a variety of bars, it will no doubt become a hub for local people as well as tourists. Chamber president Frank Rodriguez said the development was going to be good for the town and more things like it were needed. He compared Kununurra with Broome and the massive amount of development happening there. Broome puts 250,000 people through its airport annually, compared with Kununurra's 40,000. Mr Rodriguez said it was pleasing that QANTAS was going to continue its jet service to Kununurra during the wet season and provide cheap fares. Author Norma Wainwright addressed chamber members appealing for more information for the book she is compiling on the history of Kununurra and the Foreshore Development Committee made an extensive presentation about its function and the future.
