79 years old and going for it

Setting out to walk around Australia is a major challenge in anyone's language, but doing it at 79 years of age is amazing.

Peter Tripovich stopped off in Kununurra at the weekend, already well into his walk.

He started from Melbourne, walked up the east coast to Cooktown and then across northern Queensland through Normanton and on to Darwin and then across to Kununurra.

He will celebrate his 80th birthday on the road.

He is being accompanied on his walk by mate Ray Price and a trusty little campervan.

Asked how he was dealing with the 40-degree Kimberley temperatures, Peter replied: "It's not too bad.

"I get started well before sunup and usually stop during the heat of the afternoon."

He has been averaging about 40 kilometres a day.

At the end of his walk, he will have travelled   more than 20,000 kilometres.

Peter is attempting to raise as much money as possible for International Children's Care.

People who can help with his effort should log on to www.iccaustralia.org.au

Donations of more than $2 are tax deductible.
