The debate has been on going for years over whether the East Kimberley should move to NT time. It is still a hot topic and one that the results always seem to point to a resounding 'yes' - yet nothing is ever done about it. Back in the early days, when the idea was first mooted, it was knocked back because the physical paperwork associated with banking would not have made it onto the plane in time to get to Perth and be processed. A recent straw poll, run online by The Kimberley Echo at www.kimberleyecho.com received 120 votes over the past week. Of these votes, a resounding 80 percent said 'yes' they want to change to Territory time, 10.8 percent wanted to change, but not to Territory time and only 9.2 percent said they didn't want to change. A similar type of poll on the ABC website returned similar results.
