Another 'hitchhiker' cane toad has been found in Kununurra - this time under a street lamp at the corner of Konkerberry and Bloodwood drives.
Tony Davies and Teresa Rush found the toad last Thursday night and called Kimberley Toad Buster member and vet Sarah Brett.
The toad was captured and taken to the Kimberley Vet Clinic, where it was used as the first live toad experience for Buffy the toad-sniffing dingo.
Trainer Sarah Fyffe was pleased to be able to test Buffy's training with a live toad to sniff out.
The toad was placed in various locations around the clinic and Buffy showed she had what it took to find the toad, but not touch it, alerting her trainer on each occasion.
Sarah and Buffy arrived in Kununurra last week for a test run to prove Buffy's worth across the border at the 'toad front'.
Sarah has trained Buffy with the use of dead toads imported from Qld.
At the end of the exercise, the toad (a juvenile male) was euthanased.
It was the third toad to be discovered in Kununurra and is believed to have 'hitchhiked' its way on a vehicle from the NT.
