Federal Member Barry Haase joined the Kimberley Toad Busters (KTB) at the weekend in a foray into the NT that netted 2500 cane toads.
He joined 45 volunteers busting toads on Victoria River Station centring on the twin turkey nest dams in Rubber Bush Paddock.
Mr Haase reckoned his personal tally of toads would have been about 400.
He said he was impressed by the organising skills, transport arrangements, feeding organisation and safety procedures observed by the KTB volunteers.
The scientific recording being carried out was important, Mr Haase said, as was recording the ratio of males to females.
He intends to see what additional funding can be made available to help KTB, which has already received substantial funding from the Federal Government.
"I spoke to the Minister this morning," Mr Haase said in Kununurra on Monday, "and we are looking at ways to provide more money to cover the costs of food and fuel as well as other material needs (perhaps more quad bikes) for the volunteers."
For the evening meal on Saturday, Mr Haase cooked up a big stew for the volunteers at their camp in the bush at Larry's Dam.
He titled it the 'Toad Buster Bush Stew' and promises the recipe in his next 'Barry Haase Bulletin'.
Mr Haase repeated his display of culinary skills by cooking breakfast on Sunday morning.
