Brian Wall faces corruption charges

Former Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley executive manager of engineering and development services Brian Wall has been charged with corruption associated with his time in the East Kimberley.
The charges follow a 12-month investigation by the police Public Sector Investigation Unit.
It will be alleged that 41-year-old Wall, who now lives in Beechboro, was involved in getting Perth-based company Turfmaster Facility Management a contract in Kununurra in March 2003, not long after he took up his position with the Shire.
The contract was to do with weed and vegetation control.
It will be alleged that this contract, which was valued at $68,794, contravened procurement requirements as stated by the Local Government Act and Regulations.
Turfmaster's managing director Kim Evans, 42, has also been charged, as well as his company.
The charges are believed to be just the first part of an ongoing investigation that may involve several shires and money changing hands for contractors getting preferred treatment.
Wall is due in court on January 10 for a committal mention that will send the case up to the District Court.
It is not yet known whether the case will be heard in Kununurra or Perth.
Wall has currently been suspended from Perth City Council while the case proceeds.
