Kununurra resident Michael Ptolomey is keen to get Kununurra to come together for a town Christmas party.
The idea he has in mind is to use the Leisure Centre and maybe get one of the service clubs to put on a barbecue.
Parents would register and provide relatively cheap presents for Santa Claus to hand out to children - perhaps something in the range of $20 to $50.
Each present would be marked so that it went to the relevant child.
Games would be organised for the children and it would give the adults a chance to mingle.
Families would bring some food and children would have time to get in last-minute orders for Santa Claus.
Michael envisages holding the party at about 6pm on the Friday before Christmas (Christmas Day is on a Monday this year).
He got the idea from the region where he grew up near Yankalilla in SA.
Michael says he has wonderful memories of the yearly parties, which united, for only once a year, the 50 or so families who lived in the surrounding district.
What he now needs to do is gauge how much community interest there is in the idea.
Michael has asked people who would be interested in attending or helping to organise the event, to call him on 0417 096 404 or Caroline Banton on 0410 259 503.
