Kununurra experienced its first 'knock down' storm of the wet season build-up on Monday afternoon.

The thunder cell delivered 12.8 millimetres of rain at Kununurra Airport and registered wind gusts of up to 89 kilometres an hour.

However, it is thought much stronger gusts were experienced where a 'mini tornado' touched down near Mulligan's Lagoon Road, crossing across the valley uprooting trees in Oliver's mango patch, bringing down trees in Ivanhoe Village Caravan Resort and along Coolibah Drive.

No major damage was reported, although it is believed two caravans were damaged.
