A group of Kununurra people put on a sensational performance as they brought the original stage production to life, surprising many with their depth of ability and talent.

Many of the cast had never been on stage before, let alone to sing and dance in front of an audience numbering in the hundreds, but that did not stop them.

Age was no barrier either, with cast ranging in age from their early teens to well into their 50's, playing alongside each other with ease.

Even the high school band was involved, with outstanding performances from vocalist Chelsea Haynes as well as pianist and cast member Cameron Richmond.

The audience was often in stitches of laughter or giving thunderous applause, even singing along with the well-known songs.

Interestingly, the stage show differs somewhat to the movie, and was therefore refreshing as the audience was never really sure what was going to happen next.

The brainchild of Fiona Kuiper, who has wanted to produce the show ever since she can remember, 'Grease' was a dream come true for her.

Working endless hours with cast, crew and helpers, Fiona often wondered if the show would ever be ready for the performance date.

The most surprising thing for Fiona, as well as the rest of the 'Grease' team, was the response to ticket sales.

The evening show sold out only seven days after the tickets went on sale; the matinee show was also sold out days before the performance.

There were many people on the waiting list for any returned tickets.

'The champagne incident', Ange Eastwell (who played Sandy) falling on stage and Roger's (Tyran Flick) ad-lib of his fathers refrigeration business, were amongst the highlights.

One of the most amazing sets for the show was Greased Lightning, built from panels of an exact model of the vehicle used in the movie.Rob Knight constructed and loaned the vehicle to the production.

It was instrumental in many scenes and added to the feel of the acts.

Audiences at both performances got into the mood of the show dressing up in 50's costumes and having the chance to win sensational prizes such as genuine replicas of Greased Lightning and copies of the movie.

Fiona is keen to continue local amateur theatre in Kununurra and is now looking towards the next production, to be decided early next year.
