The Volunteer of the Year Awards in both Kununurra and Wyndham were popular events this year.
In Kununurra more than 50 people turned out for a breakfast at the Leisure Centre swimming pool, while in Wyndham about 40 people turned up at the Bastion for a breakfast.
Shire President Michele Pucci presided over the Kununurra celebration and Deputy Shire President Bill Barnes conducted the presentation in Wyndham.
The Kununurra winner was the effervescent Fiona Kuiper for her exemplary commitment to the community and for her incredible achievement in directing the local stage production of 'Grease' that brought so many people together and created a great 'cultural' event for the town.
Fiona, along with working a full time job, is also involved in the Kununurra Arts Council and the Kununurra Agricultural Society.
She plays trumpet at ANZAC and Remembrance Day ceremonies, is part of the Community Choir and assists the school band.
The Wyndham winner was Margaret Woodland for her passion and commitment to the Wyndham Turf Club over many years.
Margaret in her role as secretary tirelessly secures placements and sponsorship for the biggest event in town - the Wyndham Race round.
The event attracts huge numbers to Wyndham and is considered the social highlight of the year.
Margaret is well known in the town for being a person who gets things done.
Other nominations (both towns) included: Sarah Brett, Kyra Inge, Stanley Tremlett, Jordie Rock (finalist), David Woods (finalist), Angus Cole-Adams and William Thomas (finalists), Des Daniel, Jeanette Ishiguchi and Dora Birch (finalist).
