The Wyndham Telecentre and community members launched the Wyndham community web site with a ceremony at the freshly refurbished Telecentre on Friday.
In what is thought to be a world first, the .au domains administration released a series of 'community geographical domain names' (CGDNs) earlier this year.
The domain names are for community use and will provide the world's first intuitive, standardised naming system to enable better access to local community, tourism and business information to help facilitate social, cultural, economic and sustainable benefits.
The names reflect the geographical address of a locality and provide one website address for that community: placename.state.au
The use of the CGDNs will be restricted to community website portals.
The Wyndham community turned out to hear Local Member Carol Martin praise their work in refurbishing the Telecentre.
The Wyndham Telecentre moved from its old building in the old port area of Wyndham in September last year to Koojarra Street.
The move has proved to be a popular one, with a 150 percent increase in usage of the Telecentre in the past year.
A group of dedicated volunteers has been braving 40-degree days to get the garden established in time for the opening and launch of the community website.
Without the help of the Wyndham Work Camp, Dr Edge and a heap of dedicated volunteers the garden would still be in its 'tropical savannah' stage.
