The Horizon Power/Kununurra Home and Garden Christmas Lights Competition has been run and won. With only two entrants from the business sector, it seemed there might not be a good response anywhere, but the entries came in quickly towards the closing date for the home category. The Wyndham entries were all worthy of a mention. They varied from Santa climbing a ladder, to metre upon metre of rope lights and coloured fairy lights strung around balconies and verandas. In Kununurra, there was good competition between the caravan site holders, some side by side. It was decided to have a special award for the caravan site people. First place in the Business class went to Kona Waters Holiday Park. They transformed their office/reception area into something straight out of Lapland, with dripping icicles and even a Santa patiently waiting for his reindeer to appear on the veranda. Second place was awarded to Argyle Engineering with their innovative Boab Christmas tree and usual use of fantastic bright colours and sense of fun. The Home category winner was extremely hard to pick from two outstanding entries - one in Wyndham and one in Kununurra. Winner for 2006 is the entry of Nev and Maria Symonds, on Beefwood Street, Kununurra. Their use of colour, and arrangement of thousands of lights in a tight area, was just enough to tip the judges in their favour. Second place went to the awesome display of Maria Morgan, on the Great Northern Highway, Wyndham. Third place also went to a Wyndham display, that of Kale Arthur on Dorrigo Street. Ngaire Hughes in Kimberleyland Caravan Park took out the caravan prize. |
