Salty in Lake Kununurra

Anyone for a swim in Valentines? (Photograph courtesy of Irene Varley.)

Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) officers are attempting to trap a three-metre saltwater crocodile that has been spotted in Lake Kununurra.
The saurian is reported to be in an area about 40 kilometres south of Kununurra.
The department received its first report of the crocodile's location last week.
DEC officers have conducted river patrols recently in an effort to locate and remove the animal from Lake Kununurra, which is a 'crocodile control zone'.
DEC has reminded residents and visitors to exercise greater caution in or around Lake Kununurra, particularly the areas south of Carlton Gorge towards the Argyle Dam.
They say that, if a saltwater crocodile is seen, people should leave the area immediately and contact authorities.
And...a beast of a slightly different nature is lurking in the muddy waters of Valentine's Springs.
Several people have photographed a large freshwater crocodile at the popular swimming spot.
For further information or to report sightings of saltwater crocodiles, contact DEC on 9168 4200 or 0439 456 523.
