Kununurra's cricket fraternity turned up last weekend for some big hitting 20/20 cricket at the High School Oval.
This was the first year the association has played 20/20 cricket and if numbers are anything to go by it looks like it will be a huge success.
Old and new cricketers were allocated to one of the four teams named after Australian Cricketers (Roys, Punters, Husseys and Gillies).
The High School Oval was in great shape for cricket and all players looked the part in their team colours.
White cricket balls were used to give a real 'one day' atmosphere and all games were played in good spirit.
Husseys played Roys on Saturday afternoon.
Troy Willmont bowled well, taking six wickets in four overs to restrict the Roys to 93 runs, Kookie 20 and Shaun Kelly 16 not out batted well for the Roys.
The run chase from the Husseys started slowly with early wickets falling until Gary Lamb 42 ret and Josh Con-Goo 26 not out managed to steady the ship and steer the Husseys past the Roys total.
Digger bowled well for the Roys, taking two wickets from two overs.
Punters took on the Gillies on Sunday afternoon and there was plenty of big hitting with a few balls disappearing into the long grass.
Captain for the Punters Scott Day won the toss and elected to field in the cool before it warmed up.
Kim Ingle 50 ret and K Baker 44 set up a big total of 145 for the Gillies. Andrew Rowe bowled well for the Punters taking three wickets and was unlucky to miss out on a hat trick.
The Punters started off well with some big hitting from Robbie Geier 32 and Russell Gunn 50 not out however some tight bowling and fielding from the Gillies managed to keep the Punters just short of the total.
The action will continue this Sunday 13 at the same venue starting at 9.15am.
Cricketers unable to play last weekend are being encouraged to take part.
