Photographer and author Hugh Brown has done it again - come out with the definitive book capturing the marvels of the Kimberley. It is titled 'The Kimberley - tierre de mi alma - land of my soul'. The hardback high-gloss production is simply magnificent and a testimony to Hugh's incredible patience to get the right light, right angle and right mood in every shot. He also charms the reader with his knowledge and research on the various places he visits in the 168-page production. His wry sense of humour shines through as he describes some of the predicaments he has found himself in and humorous things that have befallen him and his faithful canine friend Kanch. In one such episode, on a hot day, the dog mistook a drum of sump oil for a place to cool off. "There was no air conditioning for him on our return to Broome." Hugh writes, "He most definitely sat on the back of the ute." Landscaped, sky scapes and seascapes - they're all in rich abundance in the book as well as close up shots of such items as pearl oysters and plants. Then there's the characters and Aboriginal art. There is also dramatic photographs depicting the seasons. The book would make an ideal present for distant friends and relatives, visitors or for Kimberley residents as a reference point and a memento of the rich diversity of the Kimberley. The book is available from Kununurra Newsagency or on line by emailing sales@hughbrown.com |
