Some progress in land release

The WA Planning Commission has approved stages four and five of the Lakeside residential subdivision in Kununurra.
Shire President Michele Pucci said: "Landcorp, shire and ministerial staff have worked collaboratively to get this subdivision approved and I thank all concerned for that, because, like most regional centres, Kununurra cannot afford to have land restrictions in place when confronted with demand for housing."
Cr Pucci said stages four and five consisted of 57 lots and council was urging Landcorp to have these lots fully developed by Christmas 2007 to avoid the sort of delays which had occurred with the present Stage 3 development in Lakeside.
"Wet season impacts on infrastructure development such as roads, means that this sort of infrastructure must be in place before the onset of the wet season or delays are likely to occur," Cr Pucci said.
"Extensive road repairs are still required to be done by Landcorp in Lakeside Stages 1 and 2, and the opportunity for Landcorp is to gain economy of scale by having these repairs done at the same time as road construction in Stages 3, 4 and 5."
Cr Pucci said it would be unacceptable for delays like this to occur again.
In further good news, Cr Pucci said that the Government Senior Managers Group had recommended LandCorp proceed with the proposed extension of the Weaber Light Industrial subdivision and council was eager for this to be progressed as soon as possible.
