Twice in one night
A 22-year-old Kununurra man was arrested twice during the early hours of Monday morning and charged with driving under the influence and driving without a licence.
On the first occasion he blew .250 at 12.30am.
He was processed and released and then caught driving again at 3.50am, this time blowing .176.
It was the sixth time he has been charged with the same offences since January.
Posted drugs
A man, who allegedly posted cannabis to himself, has ended up in jail.
Osman Pehoic, 27, of Kununurra, appeared in court in Kununurra charged with breach of his parole conditions, attempting to possess a prohibited drug and attempting to possess a prohibited drug for the purpose of selling or supplying it.
It was alleged he went to the Kununurra Post Office to pick up a parcel, which had already been identified as containing the drug.
Staff told him his parcel hadn't arrived yet and police then went to a caravan park and arrested Pehoic.
He was remanded in custody for a future hearing.
Swallowed drugs
A 32-year-old Kununurra man has been charged with hindering police under the misuse of drugs Act.
Const. 1st Class Connor Magee said it would be alleged police were processing the man on a drink/driving charge, when he attempted to conceal a zip seal bag in his hand.
A struggle ensued and the man managed to shove the bag in his mouth and swallow it.
The bag was believed to have contained cannabis.
The incident happened at 1am on Saturday.
Destruction trail
A 19-year-old Kununurra man has been charged with criminal damage and stealing following two incidents at the Coles complex in Kununurra on Monday at 7pm.
Const. 1st Class Magee said it would be alleged the man did a 'runner' from Liquorland with six bottles of wine.
A member of the public tackled him and he fell over smashing the wine.
He then used the palm of his hand to smash the car windscreen of the man who had tried to stop him.
Drugs eviction
37-year-old Annette French has been evicted from Kalumburu community following her conviction for attempting to sell or supply cannabis.
Sgt Warren Greatorex said the community council's tough policy on drugs meant that a first offender was evicted from the community for six months.
A second offence lead to them being evicted for 12 months and a third offence meant they would be evicted indefinitely.
Moonlight warning
Kununurra police have warned people attending the Airnorth Kimberley Moon Experience not to drink and drive.
Extra police will be brought in from Argyle and Wyndham to mount a traffic operation aimed at irresponsible drivers.
Const. 1st Class Magee urged people attending the event to use the free buses to get to and from it.
House fire
Wyndham police believe there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding a fire at Guda Guda Community at 12.45am on Tuesday morning.
It is believed an elderly man's cigarette set fire to his mattress.
His room was gutted and the remainder of the house suffered water and smoke damage.
No one was injured in the incident. |
