Organisers are so pleased with the success of the inaugural Gibb River Road Mountain Bike Challenge that they're already planning next year's event.
Organiser Simon Rimmer said the ride had been spectacular and that even if he fell over tomorrow, next year's event would take place with the ride starting in Derby on May 12.
100 riders, 30 support crew and 20 FESA, SES and St John Ambulance volunteers took part in the challenge, which left Derby on May 29 for the first gruelling 223 kilometres to Silent Grove, where the Department of Environment waived the camping charges.
The following day, riders took on the hilly and sandy 111 kilometres to Mount Elizabeth and the next day about 140 kilometres to Ellenbrae.
Then it was another 140 or so kilometres to El Questro before the final run into Kununurra, arriving on Saturday afternoon.
All up, the riders covered 710 kilometres in team relays.
Only one man, Brian Carr, 58, from Darlington completed the whole journey solo.
When he was 40, he was diagnosed with type two diabetes and decided to go on a fitness regime.
He completed the ride without assistance and even managed to observe the twilight curfews.
The super fit ex Kununurra police officer Simon Rimmer (now a sergeant in Broome) wasn't far behind Brian in the distance he rode.
