Tough stand on HC grog

The Director of Liquor Licensing will introduce tough new restrictions on alcohol sales in Halls Creek.
It is the latest attempt to tackle the town's social problems.
There will be a ban on the sale of packaged alcohol on Sundays and after 6.30pm on other days.
A review report that went to Liquor Licensing acknowledged that alcohol abuse was a serious problem in the town and restricting sales could be part of the solution.
The sale of beer in 750ml 'King Browns' will be prohibited as will sales of fortified wine and wine in casks holding more than two litres.
Halls Creek licensees opposed the new rules but were overruled.
Licensees claimed existing sanctions had already significantly helped cause a decline in the number of alcohol-related incidents.
They maintained that hardened drinkers would move to other towns where there were no restrictions or travel 360km to Kununurra to buy alcohol in bulk.
Racing and Gaming Minister Ljiljanna Ravlich claimed tougher sanctions had wide community support.
Tourists are exempt from the new rules.
