Kalumburu turn around
Kalumburu has experienced a dramatic turn around in crime.
Sgt Warren Greatorex said this was the 11th week during which there had been no burglaries.
He said that in the eight months he has been policing in the community, burglaries had previously taken up 80 percent of his workload.
He said domestic violence had also fallen to a new low of only about two cases a fortnight.
Drink/drive prang
Even driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol inside a caravan park can end up in the driver being charged.
Police will allege that on the night of the Kimberley Moon Experience, a 49-year-old woman and her partner caught the bus home from the concert to Kimberleyland Holiday Park.
The woman then walked into the park leaving her partner near the entrance sitting on an esky.
She drove the car to the entrance and picked up her partner and the esky and then reversed over some rubbish bins and into another vehicle.
Sgt Alex Timms said there were precedents at law involving places where the public had access and even on mine sites where a person could be successfully prosecuted for drink driving.
The woman was to be summonsed this week.
Snow dropper nabbed
If you thought 'knocking off knickers' had gone out of fashion, you were wrong.
Kununurra police will allege that at 5am on Sunday, patrolling police were checking the registration of a vehicle parked close to Ivanhoe Village Caravan Resort.
They spotted a man leaving the park and decided to search him.
They will allege that they found him in possession of 28 pieces of women's underwear and 1.7 grams of cannabis.
A further search of his home produced no more articles.
A 19-year-old Kununurra man has been charged with two counts of stealing and possession of cannabis.
Girl found
Police from various Kimberley stations managed to track down a missing 14-year-old Kununurra girl.
The girl's mother reported her missing last Saturday.
Kununurra police were told it was thought she was headed to Karratha in the company of a woman known to police in Kununurra.
Enquiries in Fitzroy Crossing suggested to pair had hitched a lift with a truck and a description was obtained.
Fitzroy police called Derby police and the truck was stopped and the 14-year-old taken into custody whilst her circumstances were evaluated.
Safe cleared
A safe key, left in the door of a safe, proved too much of a temptation for some Kununurra youths last week.
Whilst the newsagent was distracted, one of the youths crept into the office and cleaned out the safe before leaving by a back entrance.
Police believe the offender and two others later divided up their take, throwing away cheques and paperwork they couldn't use.
Police will allege they recovered some of the cash.
One juvenile has been charged with burglary and stealing.
There was not enough evidence to charge the two alleged associates. |
