Local Member Carol Martin has shown her true colours in an astounding media release last week.
Headed up 'Ord Vision Expands' she goes on to show that she has no grasp of what her government has done by talking of expanding Ord Stage II from 18,000 hectares to 30,000 hectares.
What they are doing is wiping their hands of the project by throwing it back into a series of environmental impact statements, native title concerns and planning approvals that would mean there would be no development for between 10 and 20 years.
Mrs Martin goes on to say: "The expressions of interest are essential to the long-term planning for the region."
Hells bells - we've just had 10 proponents spend numerous dollars putting together expressions of interest only to have the State Government shift the goals.
Then Mrs Martin says: "I urge the State Government to undertake a comprehensive study as to the viability of all crops and that we should be engaging Muresk, who have a Centre for Tropical Agriculture..."
Dead wrong Mrs Martin - they have no such thing and were amazed by your statement.
Try growing tropical crops in Northam.
And besides - what have you got against the very successful Frank Wise Institute in Kununurra?
Anyone who has followed Mrs Martin's regular addresses in the East Kimberley is familiar with her supposed stand on GM cotton - that it's OK for the East Kimberley but not for the Fitzroy.
Well, it would seem she has been telling us a little 'porky'.
Her media statement stated: "In terms of GM cotton, regardless of the moratorium, the general consensus throughout the Kimberley is 'no way' and the government needs to listen to them.
"I reiterate, keep your cotton picking hands off the Kimberley."
Well, Mrs Martin, where did you get your 'general consensus?
Perhaps at a meeting of the radical greens?
Next time you're enjoying some fast food, give a thought for the oil it was cooked in - chances are it's GM cotton oil and you haven't grown another head yet.
Next time you put on a cotton garment you're probably rubbing shoulders with the demon GM - but you can be assured of one thing - it wasn't grown in WA.
